Whiteside – photograph taken from the lower slopes of Low Fell

Whiteside and the slopes of Grasmoor (on the right) from Loweswater

A close-up of Whiteside taken from the slopes of Low Fell with Mila and Dylan.

The heathery flanks of Swinside rise to form the main ridge at the top of Hopegill Head, passing over the subsidiary Ladyside Pike (formerly Lady’s Seat).  Dodd is in the centre of the photograph with Hopegill Head (also known as Hobcarton Pike) barely visible with the ridge continuing to Whiteside.  Photograph taken from Thackthwaite and the path up to Fellbarrow and Low Fell.

Another photo of the ridge route of Swinside leading to Whiteside, higher this time. Left to right: Skiddaw and Skiddaw Little Man (the dark fells on the far left) with Lord’s Seat and Whinlatter in front.  Then in front of them is the ridge of Swinside with Dodd in front and Hobcarton End barely visible behind leading up to the first bump being Ladyside Pike the second more triangular bump being Grisedale Pike then leading higher to Hopegill Head and finally to Whiteside.  From the dip at the back you have Eel Crag, then Dove Crags and on to Grasmoor.

Here the major fells are, left to right Whiteside Fell, Grasmoor and Rannerdale Knotts leading down to Crummock Water.  (Panorama taken from Richards, M. ‘Lakeland Fellranger – The Western Fells’ Cicerone 2011)

The main fells here are Whiteside and Grasmoor (photograph taken from Fellbarrow).

The view from ‘Watching Crag’ on Low Fell with Ann and the two dogs Harry and Dylan and Mila and Roger walking towards the viewpoint.  Whiteside looms up this time (with Grasmoor just out of view on the right).  The dark distinctive sharp peak of Hopegill Head is clearly visible to the left of Whiteside  and Ladyside Pike is on the left of the photograph.
